A piece of visual culture that interests me is the famous "city bending" scene in the film Inception. What interests me is how the editing makes something so unnatural and almost cartoony realistic blend in with the actual footage and doesn't shatter suspension of disbelief. It doesn't necessarily look incredibly realistic but it still carries all the intensity and awe that it has within the world of the film because of the editing (as well as the reactions from the actors). I assume the footage itself is done mainly with CGI effects and some manipulation of actual footage of the city, whereas the promotional image above seems to be a composite of both real and computer generated pictures, along with some light editing and warping the images used in the composite.
