Satterwhite's pieces in different mediums all contain an element of performance, whether it is recordings of singers, dancers in surreal 3D worlds, or himself posing or engaged in public performance in videos. Even pieces like the sculptures depicting Doubt Thomas contain a degree of personal performance, as the figures are modeled after himself and permanently posed to create a scene. He mentioned being a millennial obsessed with social media, where all posts that people share of themselves are a sort of digital performance, like the depictions of himself in his own work, where he is posing and capturing specific aspects and moments that he wants to display and share with an audience. Satterwhite also said that his work is a form of escapism-- for dancers, actors, etc., performance can be a form of escapism, of both connecting with and moving outside of your own self and body.
